About the event

An event with influencers: how people have connected. And a second celebration with other community organisations, to coincide with Murdoch Day.

About Cornwall Rural Community Charity

The Cornwall Rural Community Charity has been supporting communities in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly for over 75 years. Its strategic focus is on ‘Communities of Place’ and ‘Communities of Interest’. Today it works in partnership with other charities to support over 8,000 young and adult carers; has specific programmes to help veterans and engages with people to smooth their hospital discharge. Staff also support young people with learning disabilities and some teenagers who otherwise would be homeless. The charity is also heavily engaged in supporting fishing communities around the UK and has recently launched Clean Cornwall initiative to support tourism and the environment.

Our community story

Troubled teenagers found lockdown tough – those in care struggled to find support and some at home fell out with their families. A team at the CRCC secured a house from Truro council to look after teenagers thrown out during lockdown, keeping them safe from county lines gangs and helping them cope with the isolation and lack of care. This is their story.

On 17 June over 24 voluntary organisations are coming together to share their experiences of connecting with communities, network and talk to each other and in the afternoon hear 6 short presentations on new ways in which charities in Cornwall are connecting with communities.

On 18 June CRCC is joining the Redruth traditional Murdoch day festival supported by Chaos radio to gather vox-pop views from people on their experiences and hopes for the future of their communities.
