What do the Change Group hope to achieve?

After their first couple of sessions, we caught with a few of the Social Care Change group. What do they hope to achieve by taking part?

ALAN: You’ve got to make the system from the bottom up. With people who are on the shop floor, as it were. Or we’ll end up with a system dictated only by politicians and professionals. So I’m most looking forward to us having an effect on the policies. I will be most disappointed if we get nowhere.

CLARE: I’m looking forward to giving a voice to people who work within the sector and people who use the sector as well. We need a care system that works with the person as an individual. So that the care is much more tailored to them and people get to do what they want to do. Rather than it being so prescribed.

ANA: I’m most looking forward to making a difference. Even if in a very small way. I believe that the policymakers don’t have any idea what happens ‘on the floor’. So it’s important we talk about that. And show them what the reality is, rather than them making assumptions without really knowing what happens.

MATT: Social care has been on its knees for far too long. It’s about time it was put up there with the NHS and supported as it should be. So people can have a full life and a full lived experience.
