“Community support groups are not funded by the government”
“Something that came up in our conversation quite strongly was that these support groups that we’re talking about that were in the community…they’re not run by the NHS. They’re run by people within the community or local organisations. And they’re also not funded by the government, or by the community. They’re all community based and community funded. And I think that’s a real struggle. One of my colleagues runs Send Group. And she’s constantly having to fight for funding to be able to have a place where they can meet. And provide activities for the children and the families and support for the carers, and all that kind of thing. And that’s, I think, a huge thing that is missing within the system.”
