"My relative had a condition that was what they call multi-system, so it doesn't fit neatly into one speciality. And there was no joint approach. The health system didn't seem to serve her very well, because she would be referred to a consultant who would look at her from the narrow perspective of their speciality, whether that was haematology or gynaecology or neurology or whatever. She saw about 10 different specialists. It's kind of like looking at a picture, and if you just keep looking at little slice of slices of it, it doesn't really make sense. But there seemed to be absolutely no expectation or mechanism whereby all of these people could bring their specialisms together to actually take a full picture of her."
